The crayfish party is one of the most popular cultural celebrations in Sweden. We call it "kräftskiva". It promises great food, great company and traditional drinking songs (snapsvisor). All throughout the month of August Swedes are throwing or attending crayfish parties.
While its not an official holiday, it is a festive tradition with history. The king of Sweden started eating crayfish in the early 1500′s, then in the mid-late 1500′s crayfish were brought to Swedish waters. It wasn’t until the 1700′s that normal country men began to eat them. In the early 1900′s a bacteria started to wipe out the crayfish in Europe. It became illegal to fish for crayfish in Sweden throughout the year, except for a short period in August – thus Kräftskiva, a celebration of being able to eat crayfish once a year.
How to eat crayfish:
Cold, with your fingers. Bread and a strong cheese such as mature Västerbotten to be eaten on the side. People mostly drink beer and of course, the inevitable snaps. (Oh, and don't forget to wear a funny paper hat and a bib!)

This special one week drawing and painting course, led by professional Artist and Teacher Graham Cole will be held at the lovely Château Garreau, situated in a beautiful old vineyard nestled between rows of vines and a sweeping landscape, southeast of Bordeaux.
The vine production has moved to the neighbouring chateau and today the old farm has been renovated to become an inspiring location for creative development. Garreau is not a hotel but more like a home with lots of space for socialising or quiet time on your own; you will instantly feel at home.
The course is suitable for all levels of experience and will be as beneficial to beginners as to the more advanced painter.
The Chateau offers an array of activities including cycling (free use of bikes), horse riding, swimming pool and games.
Included in the programme is:
· Colour mixing
· Painting and drawing techniques
· Drawing session
· Basic landscape
· Option of working form organic forms
· Demonstrations and feedback will be part of the daily routine.

For four evenings in March (24-27th 2015) we are extremely excited to be hosting Sweden’s most famous female chef Malin Söderström. Malin will be taking up residency in the Stockholm deli kitchen and serving up a carefully curated and unique menu for those lucky enough to reserve a table.
Malin’s ability is high end. Straight after graduating in food technology she worked at Michelin Starred Restaurant Paul & Norbert in Stockholm, where she gained first class experience at the beginning of her career. In recognition of her ability Malin became the first female member of the Swedish Culinary Team as well as being elected a board member for the Swedish chef’s association. On top of all this, her celebrity status began to grow with guest judge appearances on Sweden’s MasterChef and writing several cookbooks.
Currently she runs the main restaurant at the museum of modern art, the restaurant Hjerta on the island ‘Skeppsholmen’ and the restaurants on the two ancient ships Gustafsberg VII and Östana I.
As you can imagine, we feel privileged to welcome such cooking pedigree to our kitchen, let alone to share this experience with London.
